Just a Little Bit More About May...

We had a Woellhaf Family Reunion at the end of May this year (minus some who wouldn't succumb to our pleas and grace us with their presence....they were missed) :(

There was a lake with canoes ("fast eddies" and "stable mables") or paddle boats. We had a blast out there on the water with almost everybody else!! Many tried more than one boat!

After the lake our camp hosts got us a spot on the challenge courses. I can't even remember what number it was...was it 2?? Well, nevertheless, we had such a marvelous time cheering each other on and facing our fears together!!!

I can't say ALL, but most of us in this pic were scared to some degree of spitless...

The rest of the weekend was spent in the Salt Lake Valley doing various activities. One of which was visiting the Great Salt Lake.

Another activity was to go to Temple Square. We got to see an AMAZING scale model of inside and outside the Salt Lake Temple. We also got to see the Joseph Smith Movie, as well as a small tour of the conference center.

Chloe went through a phase of exploring things with her thumb, middle and index fingers forming a sign-language "k" (This isn't a great example, but it's the best I was able to capture.) :P

I Forgot One Detail...

Before Chloe suddenly "figured" out the whole sitting up thing, when we'd try sitting her up she would fold directly in half!! Face plant right between her feet! I'm not sure exactly how, I can't even touch my feet let alone fold in half! :P

So Much to Catch Up On....Where Oh Where Do I Start???

Before I forget I need to document some milestones that Chloe has reached. (I know I'm really the main one interested in these little details) :)

• Chloe sat up on her own for the first time on July 14th while she and I were at the pool watching the kids swim. She just suddenly figured it out and has gotten better and better at it ever since.

  

• Chloe began standing up (with help of course) around the 29th of July. Before that if you tried to get her to stand up she'd just let her legs buckle under her. She didn't start by standing straight up though. When she first started standing she'd stand with her legs straight but she'd bend at the waist as if she were taking a bow. After a few days of standing like that she started to straighten up and now, more than a week later, she's standing like a pro.
• Chloe also began shaking her head back and forth around the 29th of July. We're pretty sure she doesn't know what it means but we have fun with it, asking her questions and waiting to see if she shakes her head or not.
• Around 4 August 2010 Chloe started waving but it was a funny circuitous wave, sometimes making beckoning motions, sometimes waving her hand in circles, and sometimes actually waving her hand up and down. The past few days she's actually figured out how to wave up and down on cue....when she wants to. :)
• The past two days Chloe has been holding up her index finger while holding the rest of her fingers down with her thumb as if she's giving somebody "the what for" or telling us that she's going to be one year old.
• Today Grandpa Jan was holding Chloe at church and she bit his finger, the pain of which led him to discover that she's recently cut her first tooth. (A few days ago she started pulling at her ear so it probably started cutting through her gums at that time).

More Milestones

This week Chloe has achieved quite a few milestones:

• she started putting herself to sleep...it's funny because I feel like Chloe is training me rather than I training her! I've read that you should teach your child to put herself to sleep so that she won't be dependant on you to help her get back to sleep in case she gets woken up. I thought, "yeah, right!! easier said than done!" I had no idea how to accomplish that so I just continued trying to do it the way we've always done: rocking, shushing, coddling, etc. Well, it stopped working for the most part now!! She just wants to lay down and moan/chatter herself to sleep. :-P

• Chloe has discovered the joy of sucking on her toes!

• she has found her thumb! She still likes other fingers, and occasionally multiples. But she seems to be developing a definite preference for the good ol' thumb.

• yesterday Chloe rolled from her tummy onto her back for the first time and several times, although it still seems to be a surprise to her every time it happens so she can't exactly replicate that action at will.

Today....

Chloe never ceases to amuse me. Just a few of the amusing things she did today are:

• I left her this morning and went into the bathroom for a little while. When I left her, and for a while after, she was quite vocal--- making all sort of babbling sounds. Then she suddenly got quiet. It was so sudden that it gave me pause and I came into the bedroom to see what had caused the change. I discovered that she had found her pacifier, inserted it correctly in her mouth and was calmly sucking away at it!! :)

• She put her hands on either side of my face and put her face up to mine. <3

• Molly was laughing and Chloe laughed just because the sound of Molly's voice and laugh are simply delightful to her!! :D

• Tonight I was going to rock Chloe to sleep, as usual, but I really needed to use the bathroom first so I laid her down in her bed while I took care of business. By the time I came back she was already 97% asleep. <3
